What is this data?
The data was collected by ESA (European Space Agency) satellite launched in 2002, which carried an array of nine Earth-observation instruments that gathered information using a variety of measurement principles. ASAR (Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar) was the largest single instrument, operated in the C- band in a wide variety of modes, detecting changes in surface height with sub-millimeter precision.
Currently Envisat is inoperative; ESA formally announced the end of its mission in May 2012.
Where is it available?
Envisat SAR images covering Iceland were collected between 2003 – 2010 and are available on ‘Askja’ remote computer (askja.rhi.hi.is) at The University of Iceland. For access and a list of available images please contact Freysteinn Sigmundsson (fs@hi.is).
